The accommodation is sheer Italian luxury, as each room has been thoughtfully decorated with such taste, and the views are breathtaking . We were greeted each morning with a tasteful breakfast prepared by Ivan & Marc. They were on hand to help us choose where to go with excellent advice and restaurant recommendations for that marvellous Italian cuisine . We even experienced our first open air opera, which was an incredible experience. After a day touring around it was lovely coming back to relaxing by the pool, and looking out at the spectacular views. S&S…see u again!

We spent an incredible week at Cancello Est and loved every minute of it, Marc and Ivan were the most wonderful accommodating hosts. Their knowledge of the area, culture, places to visit and eat including ‘Taster meals’ in the mountains made our stay even more enjoyable. The room was amazing with a beautiful fresco on the ceiling and amazing Sibilini mountains to wake up to after a good nights rest on a very comfortable bed, The breakfast was perfect for the time of year with fruit salad made up of many of the freshest local fruit topped with amazing local Greek style yoghurt, fresh breads, cheeses, sliced meats, home-made jams and selection of fresh local croissants with cooked breakfast on offer if preferred. The area has many good shops including famous Outlets such as Todds, Prada and Boss for a bit of retail therapy. We visited Lake Fiastra in the mountains where we swam in its crystal clear waters. One evening after a great meal, we went to a traditional outdoor Italian Opera ‘La Traviata’ in Macerata and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were there for a week and covered only a fraction of what there was to do and see. Cannot wait to go back!
Love at First Sight
Italian Holidays are perfect to escape the hustle and bustle of a busy life it’s hard to find a suitable hotel for your needs – especially when all you want to do is relax and unwind.
Cancello Est is located in the tiny medieval village of Gualdo, which overlooks the Sibillini mountain and has amazing views. It really fitted my agenda perfectly.
The rooms are spacious and the marble bathrooms amazing which was a very pleasant surprise being in the middle of the countryside. My room, the Grand Sasso Suite, complete with a remarkable restored ceiling Fresco, was filled with all needed amenities, including a bathtub with a view and a separate shower. The beds are remarkably comfortable with a great choice in linens for the sheets.
The entrance lobby is meticulously decorated with international art pieces and designer furniture mixed with antiques. Really works well together in the 15th Century fully restored building.
The hotel also has a very cozy lounge on the ground floor that can serve as a great place to have meetings. Sectioned in accordance to needs, the place is carefully decorated to service guests with coffee table books peppering the tables and shelves. iPads and laptops for guests are available, just ask for them (another reason to travel light).
Everything aside, the real eye-grabber is the pool. Located in in the old town wall, the pool has views out to the mountains and feels like you are floating on air. Everything you could possibly need is provided from suntan oils, to bottled water. Fountains cascading into the pool give a really relaxing touch.
My breakfasts were amazing. Fresh local produce and copious amounts of freshly brewed coffee. Marc and Ivan refer to the dining room as a Guestaurant – which is really pleasant as you meet such nice people at meal times. Eating out in Gualdo and the surrounding villages is a brilliant experience and everything is so well priced I was convinced that they were undercharging me. Fabulous foods and huge portions for around €20 a head. Amazing! The boys are a great source of local knowledge from where to eat and what to see and seem to be able to guide you in the right direction so that you really discover the beauty of Le Marche.
If you are going to Italy, Cancello Est is a must-visit. The hotel is equipped with everything to make your stay in Italy fantastic. Also, don’t forget to try out the pool!
Italian Holidays – Perfect in Every Way
Cancello Est is quite simply the most perfect little weekend getaway! A superbly rennovated palazzo made into a luxurious boutique hotel run by the most incredible hosts, Marc and Ivan, both of which have added their personal touch to the place. The rooms are huge and stylishly decorated and uber comfortable and every single window you open offers a BREATHTAKING view of the countryside. You literally lose yourself – the ultimate relaxation spot! The towns nearby are equally gorgeous – I arrived into Ascoli PIceno, another beautiful medieval town where there were flag tossing shows, drove to Gualdo at night and woke up in the morning to such a stunning view – I forgot all my problems in a minute! Marc and Ivan offer a delicious breakfast with local delicacies and offer a multitude of suggestions of places to visit and eat and if you are not in the mood to do any of that there is a pool and loungers that you can spend your whole day on!
It was truly one of the loveliest weekends I have had in ages and I am most definitely going back!
Italian countryside perfection!
My husband and I just arrived back from this little piece of heaven and certainly cannot wait to go back! This magnificent B&B makes one feel like royalty and the views from the room absolutely breathtaking, not to mention the fresco’s on the ceilings as you wake up! I definitely put on a few pounds from all the yummy food we ate, but so worth it!
The region boasts the most beautiful landscapes, quaint little villages filled with so much history, amazing basillica’s and stunning wine farms (yum)!
In Winter, it’s a simple hop, skip and a jump if you wanna go skiing and we managed to catch a bit of snow as we arrived (Brilliant!). Our hosts Marc and Ivan were fantastic so would recommend this home away from home as a must visit!
The best views in a medieval walled town, where all views are magnificent. A superbly restored property, offering world-class luxury facilities, excellent service levels and outstanding attention to detail, where no guest request is too much. Marc and Ivan are not only excellent hosts but also knowledgeable ambassadors for Le Marche. Its central location and easy access to many neighbouring towns, as well as top heritage sites like Assisi and Urbino, makes Gualdo’s Cancello Est the ideal point from which to discover one of the finest regions of Italy.
